Lectures
This week sir wants us to practice our storytelling skills with an advertisment exercise in an hour we have to submit the end product edited with background music and sound effects.
Instructions
Project 2: Audio Storytelling
For this project, we need to select a fairy tale we’re familiar with and create an audiobook. The lecturer recommended choosing a story we know well to better convey expression and emotion. The recording should be done in a quiet space, using a pitch and tone appropriate for the story. Finally, we’ll enhance the audiobook by adding sound effects to complete the experience. I chose to do my favourite childhood tale that I still deeply cherished now, My little pony.
Script
For the script to be accurate, I had to
refer back to the episode where they were introducing the history of
Equestria which is at the very beginning of the show.
After drafting the script, I realized that the content was too lengthy and
would exceed the project's time limit. Therefore, I decided to cut the
script in half and leave the rest for a continuation. This allows me to
focus on delivering higher-quality storytelling and more polished sound
effects editing.
Visuals
- Rooster call
- Owl hooting
- children laughing and playing
- sleeping and snoring sound
- flipping pages
- magic sound
- magic (unicorns)
- wings flapping (Pegasi)
- hooves galloping sound (earth ponies)
- writing/ scribbling sounds
Narration audio
For my narration, I noticed my
voice was a bit hoarse, so I did some vocal exercises until I felt confident
enough to record. I turned off the fan and air conditioner to ensure a quiet
environment, but it still wasn’t completely silent due to nearby electrical
appliances. Eventually, I locked myself in a quiet room and waited for the
birds to finish singing before starting my recording. Finally that it's
quiet, i recording a few times keeping in mind to lessen the lip smacking
and breathing control as i talk, i also had to find a consistent voice for
the narration and a different one for the voice acting.
I then imported my narration audio into Adobe Audition and edited it, even added reverb and equaliser to sound more convincing.
The final edited narration audio is attached below.

Reflection
Working on this project was a delightful experience, especially recording and narrating the story. Since it’s a childhood tale I hold close to my heart, revisiting it brought back fond memories. While it was a bit of a challenge to create a quiet, noise-free environment, I eventually managed to get a decent recording using my phone.
The sound editing process, however, presented its own difficulties. Syncing my narration with the background music was tricky, as the music often overlapped my voice, making some sections inaudible. After some adjustments, realignments, and careful editing, I succeeded in harmonizing my voice, the music, and the graphics.
I also took the opportunity to apply some of the new techniques I learned in class, which made the editing process more enjoyable. Although it was initially frustrating, I eventually got the hang of it and found myself having fun experimenting with different approaches.
