Visual Design:
Since this story is different from the mermaid story I worked on last semester for Animation Fundamentals, I had to create a new reference sheet, expression sheet, and layout design for the characters and settings in this story.

Layout Design

For the layout design, I had to look for a reference to better visualise what the setting and the colour aesthetic would look like together with my characters.

Reference
Since the location will mostly be in a precinct or library filled with books, I found some examples of a grand but old looking library that seems to be around in the older ages.

Supporting characters

For Nova's parents, I planned to draw and render them together as a couple. However, to better capture how an older couple might look standing together, I had to search for some reference images.

Feedback

The layout design looks nice but you can improve it by adding a light in the middle to make the overall setting less dark. The parents looks young.

Reflection

This project was quite a challenge for me. Initially, I thought it would be easy since it was similar to what we learned last semester, but I underestimated the workload involved in starting from scratch within a short timeframe. Although I had to rush my work, I believe I did my best to meet all the requirements outlined in the MIB and instructions. Using past lecture notes and the examples provided in class helped me quickly solidify the direction for my pitch bible.

For the project itself, I was glad to finally present my short story in full, supported by the visual elements I created. Since I was already familiar with the story and the flow of the slides, the presentation wasn’t too challenging. However, I realized I still need to improve my public speaking skills to make my presentations faster and smoother. If I have more time in the future, I’ll strive to do even better.
