Week 1

PUBLIC HOLIDAY/NO CLASS

 

 

Week 2

Briefing given and delegated into tutorial groups, start thinking about what topic we want to do.

Researching on different websites and articles to determine what topic I want to do.  But at this point i'm still not sure.

 

Week 3

Tutorial with Dr. Hayati and creating slides for the proposal.

Research into the topic that I wanted to do until I decided that I want to be based on design for future making. Soon decided on the research problem “Will AI take over 3D animation?” But before that, I read into what is 3D animation to understand before jumping into the actual research

Personal Feedback: My topic is acceptable but I might need to narrow it down a little bit when I do further research.

Week 4

Presenting further into the slides and determining the problem statement. 

I tried to write the problem statement based on the research from the articles I found following the materials given in files week 1- 6 currently following the structure to form my problem statement. 


 

Week 5 

PUBLIC HOLIDAY

Finalising my proposal and the description, did some changes to the proposal like i have further elaborate on my problem statement and drafted out the pdf version of my proposal because as i extend on the problems and threats that AI might impose on future animator while i try to identify solutions. 

 

Week 6 

Dr. Hayati is hospitalised 

Started on making the slides in google slides first as I needed a revamped version from the last one, miss said it was too simple.

 

Week 7 

To narrow down my design research topic. 

 

Personal Feedback: It is a risky topic. Talking about how good they are/ don’t have to be too good at what they are doing at what are doing with the help of AI. Canva is made for silent designers. Critical review folder/ share the PDF of the design research article. Interview must find the right person. Stick to the current issue, what aspect of 3D animation do I want to research on, need to narrow down, too vague. Citation in my problem statement is important. 



Week 8

Independent Learning Week 

Was determining a good method to use for my research. Going through the advantages and disadvantages of each method to determine the most applicable one for my research topic. 

 

Week 9 

We are to discuss our research method and get approval of our research method from Dr.Hayati this week. 

I have finally determined the most suitable method for me to carry out to achieve the most effective data. I updated my slides with the recap of my research problem, research questions, elaboration and justifying the method that I wanted to use for this task. Currently still sketching and refining the survey form questions before making the google form. 

Refer back to the recordings if we have any uncertainties as many have been discussed. Do not be too ambitious with our research topic as we might not be able to cover all aspects in time. 

Week 10

 

 

Personal feedback: Remodify your qualitative questions and redirect them to only professionals to get the necessary information. Polish up your questions to make it seem professional. 

It is suggested to direct those questions to film school alumnus and professionals. Do not use quantitative research as it will not be relevant to my research objective. Only 5 responses are required for my qualitative survey. 

Week 11 

Was absent as i was not feeling well

For the past 2 weeks I've been trying to use different ways to reach out to the alumni and the professional animators that I needed for my qualitative survey. I have even tried to find more respondents through Linkedin. Through emails, exploring their page on instagram and sending tons and tons of invitations in order to get the minimum of 5 responses according to the lecturer’s feedback from last week.

Week 12 

This week the lecturer is double checking everybody’s method and giving them feedback to improve their forms for the ones that have not sent out the forms. 

I managed to collect 7 professional responses from my targeted audience and I will start analysing them soon to come to a conclusion on my research. Will also collect the data and screenshots that proves that it is in fact the professionals that leaked my qualitative form for me from instagram, and linked in. I did try to email them but it didn’t work and they wouldn’t respond to emails. 

 

Week 13

Week 14 

Last week we were asked to work on our final reflection referring to the examples provided in google classroom. The lecturer was checking up on everybody and their progress as usual, checking our final reflection. 

This week I got to work on my final reflection while the lecturer was reviewing everybody else’s reflection. I decided to have my reflection splitted according to the assignment we completed and reflected on every single one of them in detail, wrote the format in google form and inserted it into our main slide. After the class, I worked on simplifying my original slides as the lecturer suggested as she commented that it would be too much to handle as we’re navigating through the slides if we are using the original slides. Next, I prepared a script for my final presentation and recorded the presentation. Took me several tries to record one where I'm not nervous but I got it in the end.

Personal Feedback: Was told that I did a great job at collecting the necessary data from the professionals. To add on, I was told to simplify my original slides for my presentation to make it time efficient for my recorded presentation. Do not throw away the collected data and don't end the conversation with the professionals just like that, it could come in handy for design dissertation.
